Down To Mars

My parents had bought me a Science Encyclopedia when I was seven -- a big, thick book filled with answers to the whys and hows of life. This grey book decorated with various scientific objects such as the earth’s core or a steamboat’s inner workings would always have a place in my heart. It was my holy grail; apparently I had asked “why” so many times, my parents decided this would keep me content. And it did, because I got to learn as much as I wanted to.

I remember Nicki Minaj’s first feature on the radio in middle school, how I thought she was so amazing because she was this beautiful black woman with an extreme personality- her different personas and musical styles used to captivate me. Favorite songs: itty bitty piggy and Roman’s Revenge

I remember jamming to Janelle Monet’s “tightrope” in high school, embracing her weirdness as her songs complemented my targeted aesthetic. I wanted to become a space princess, a galactic superstar, so much like Cowboy Bebop.

Andre 3000 amazed me with his song, “prototype”.

Vivid memories of my Aunts and Uncles who were successful in the tech industry. My aunt was a software engineer and my uncle was an engineer that started selling planes for Boeing. My cousin became an aeronautical engineer as well, which kept motivating me.

I also had some sort of spiritual journey or epiphanies if you call it. I felt like I was put on this earth to get as much as I can accomplished.

I want to:

Take black people to mars

Use Space technology and precious research to develop products, techniques and solutions to things that are happening on Earth

Grow my afro out so long it can’t fit in a space suit

Get the next generation of kids pumped up for space

Try to tackle huge, philosophical and intersectional questions that WILL arise as soon as we step foot off this planet and onto another one.

Integrate intersectionality into every thing I do, everyone I encounter and every person I reach

Create sustainable living and not forget about this earth

not forget about people on this earth, how we can take care of them and what we can do to make this world a more livable, breathable, and spiritually as well as physically safe environment.

Be down to earth,

as well as down to mars .
